About
Merry is a dark brindle purebred Cairn that spent the first five years in a kennel as a breeding dog. She is more of a people dog than a dog’s dog. That’s not to say she doesn’t like other dogs—she loves to play and run around with the others. But she always seeks out the human in the mix. She was born in April, 2018, and is on the small side, weighing just 13 lbs.
Merry’s foster describes her as a “cling-on Cairn,” in other words, she is happiest and most content when she is with her human. She has no apparent fears, and is friendly with humans and other dogs. Merry walks well on leash, and pays no attention to the barn cats on the property. A verbal “no” suffices if she is caught in any level of law-breaking behavior.
Merry is working on her bathroom skills, and will require patience in that area. Because she lived in a kennel for so long, she never learned to make the distinction of inside vs outside. Currently, Merry is clean and dry in her crate and is gradually coming to terms with the “outside” concept. She is considered “crate trained,” but needs to be taken out under supervision until she gets the idea.
Merry’s best case life scenario is with a retired couple or with someone who works from home or is home most of the day. A fun-loving, non-aggressive canine buddy is a must. A fenced in yard is required, as Merry likes to explore and isn’t averse to chasing any perceived or real varmint she runs across. Unlike lots of terriers, Merry likes to play fetch.
Merry is spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on all vaccinations and is on a monthly heartworm and flea and tick preventative. Merry is in foster care in Columbiaville, MI. Travel to the foster home by car is required.
We are always happy to consider out of state applicants. However, once approved for adoption, it is the responsibility of the new family to travel by car to the foster home to finalize the adoption. Applicants should have an excellent track record of veterinary care for any past or current pets.
